Cecilia Requena is a Member of Parliament of the Bolivia National Assembly and part of the steering committee of Parliamentarians for a Fossil Free Future network. During her legislative work in the Senate, she chaired the Environment Committee, where she distinguished herself by denouncing the systemic impacts of extractivism, including illegal mining, deforestation and fires, and hydrocarbon exploitation, even in protected areas. She also secured Senate approval for bills to strengthen the protection of protected areas; reduce and even eliminate the use of mercury in gold mining; and promote bio-inputs.
