Climate Home News is expanding and improving our award-winning climate coverage. But that’s not the only change…
For almost 15 years, we have been providing our valuable news and analysis completely free. But in early September, we will introduce and test a subscription model with much of our content only accessible to paying subscribers.
We have not taken this decision lightly. It has come after hundreds of hours of research, consultation and discussions about how we can best continue to deliver the essential content trusted by climate experts, environment officials and sustainability professionals around the world.

What can I expect as a reader?
Though our model will be changing, you can be assured that the high quality of our work will remain the same – there will just be more of it.
Our news output will increase as we aim to bring you more of the latest developments on the crucial topics that are shaping our world. There will be interviews with key figures in the world of climate policy, as well as more expert analysis and opinion from leading thinkers.
And as we grow and learn, we will use your feedback to deliver more of what matters most and introduce new services to provide even more benefits.
What happens in September?
We hope to make the transition to our subscription model as smooth as possible. As a reader, you don’t need to do anything except choose your preferred level of access when the time comes.
There will be two options, both of which we will offer when you visit our site after the launch. The first option is to register for free and gain access to a selection of articles on our website and receive our Climate Weekly newsletter every Friday.
For those of you who already receive our newsletter – thank you! – all you’ll need to do is use your email address to login. When prompted, just create a username and password for your account, and then you’ll be able to read our free-to-access stories and comment pieces.
The second option is to invest in a quarterly or annual subscription which unlocks all our exclusive content – 10 stories a week – and gives you access to everything on our site.
Why are we introducing a subscription model?
Recent high-level political developments have sent ripples through the worlds of climate action and philanthropy, resulting in funding cuts to donors and their partners, including independent news media.
But with every challenge, comes an opportunity. And this is why we have decided to introduce a paywall on some of our content.
In an age of AI, social media noise and misinformation, demand for informative, original and reliable climate news is increasing and providing it to a community of professionals who rely on it to drive climate action is more important than ever.
By producing this high-quality content and charging a small fee, we plan to grow our unique coverage of international climate politics and the energy transition and deliver more of the essential news and investigations that have been valued by so many over the years.
