In 2024, our coverage of an underreported children\u2019s health crisis in Chile\u2019s copper heartland<\/a> was picked up by two Chilean lawmakers, who demanded the government take urgent action. Chilean congressman Jaime Araya described<\/a> the story\u2019s findings as \u201cshocking\u201d and wrote to then President Gabriel Boric requesting health and environment ministers visit the region and take action. He also asked Chile’s National Human Rights Institute to monitor the situation, which it is now doing. In addition, Antofagasta senator Esteban Vel\u00e1squez N\u00fa\u00f1ez cited our story to denounce the situation in northern Chile, urging the government deliver a plan to tackle the problem. Spurred on by our story, a coalition of environmental campaigners and Indigenous groups is suing the Chilean government for failing to curb pollution. <\/strong>In June 2025, a letter was published in Nature Medicine<\/a> highlighting our reporting and calling for “scientific investigations to uncover the truth about the consequences of the systemic environmental challenges” in northern Chile’s copper hub. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the summer of 2025,\u00a0we broke the story that the PR company Edelman had won a COP30 media contract despite the firm also working for Shell<\/a>\u00a0causing ripples in media and climate circles across the world. This story was translated,\u00a0republished\u00a0and referenced in international media,\u00a0leading the Global Climate and Health Alliance to\u00a0issue a press release calling on Brazil to drop Edelman<\/a>Clean Creatives \u2013 a network of more than 1500 ad and PR agencies \u2013\u00a0did likewise<\/a>, while US-based NGO Conservation Law Foundation\u00a0started a petition to ask the UN to drop Edelman from COP30.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our June 2025 investigation into Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), on which we partnered with The Straits Times in Southeast Asia and InfoAmazonia in Brazil, was picked up in the Financial Times<\/a>, a well-read Bloomberg newsletter<\/a>,  Spanish newspaper El Mundo<\/a>, and Malaysia\u2019s biggest financial newspaper The Edge.<\/a> It was followed up by Swiss Newspaper Tages Anzeiger<\/a> and Sweden\u2019s public broadcaster, and prompted Malaysian authorities to promise action on used cooking oil fraud<\/a>. <\/p>
